Punjab government has decided not to increase the fares for the Metro Bus Service. The government not only decided against ending the subsidy for Metro Buses but also released funds for the Orange Line Metro Train Project.
The provincial finance minister Jawan Bakht announced the development on Wednesday.
He said the cabinet meeting decided not to end the subsidy for Metro Project and has released funds for the Orange Line project as well.
He also rejected the rumors that the government was going privatize the Metro Bus Service, saying that ‘the government has no such plans.’

“We don’t want to overburden the masses with increased fares on Metro further. We understand that both [Metro and Orange Line] projects are a white elephant for the exchequer; we have, therefore, decided to seek assistance from international firms to bring down the operational cost of these projects.” Mass Transit Authority has received instructions in this regard, he added.
Commenting on the recent Pak-India tensions, the minister said it was Modi-led BJP’s ploy to swing forthcoming elections in his favor.
Jawan Bakht believed that Indian forces won’t dare confront Pakistan on borders, even if they did, they will receive a befitting reply from our brave soldiers.
