I’m Not Worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize: PM Imran Khan

Soon after Prime Minister Imran Khan announced to release captured Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, people started demanding a Nobel Peace Prize for the PM.

#NobelPeacePrizeForImranKhan began trending on Twitter, and people from different countries joined the call. Even a motion was submitted in the National Assembly to award the PM the Nobel Peace Prize.

However, PM Imran Khan does not seem to be agreeing with this demand. He tweeted last night that the person who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the will of the Kashmiri people is actually worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize.

His tweet reads “I am not worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. The person worthy of this would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and paves the way for peace & human development in the subcontinent.”

It needs to be noted here that apart from Twitter users and Pakistani politicians, this move by the premier was appreciated by various world leaders including British PM Theresa May, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Moreover, an online petition was filed with the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the nomination of the Pakistan premier for “his peace efforts and dialogues in the Asian region on diverse conflicts (e.g. Pakistan-India, Afghanistan-USA, Middle East etc.).”
