The Professional Footballers’ Association’s team of the year was announced on Thursday, which was dominated by title challengers Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Manchester United Paul Pogba was a shock inclusion in the final XI despite having a disappointing season for his side, who currently sit sixth on the table.
Raheem Sterling was one of the six Manchester City players to have been included in the team. Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk was selected in defense alongside Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
However, Mohammad Salah was not selected in the final XI while Chelsea’s Eden Hazard also remained a surprise omission despite being one of six players to have been nominated for Players’ Player of the Year award.
Bernado Silva, Sadio Mane and Sergio Aguero lead the attacking line for the PFA team, which means that this is the first time Harry Kane has not been included in previous five seasons.
Ederson edged out Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, who conceded two fewer goals and kept two more clean sheets. However, Ederson’s ability to build the attacks from the back can not go unnoticed.
City’s Fernandinho and Laporte were two remaining candidates in the team, who have played a pivotal role in their campaign thus far.
