Sindh Adds a 5% Tax on Careem, Uber and Other Ride-Hailing Services

The Sindh Assembly approved the Sindh Finance Bill, 2019, on Thursday. As expected, the provincial government has levied sales tax on online cab services.

It was being speculated that the tax rate on cab operators and drivers would be 13 percent. However, as the government clarified earlier, sales tax on online cab services like Uber, Careem along with online businesses is five percent.

The same tax rate applies to the training centers, extraction of mineral resources, and insurance agents. Moreover, a 13 percent sales tax has been levied on cold storages, waste management, and power transmission service while 10 percent sales tax has been imposed on indoor games.

The Sindh government has imposed a tax on 150 CC motorcycles and commercial vehicles with and without air-conditioning depending upon the number of their seats.

The provincial government has also applied taxes on temples, madrassas, mosques, churches, and imam bargahs. Property tax rates on the properties of welfare organizations have also increased.
