Govt to Investigate Rs. 75 Billion Islamabad Airport Corruption Scandal

Aviation Minister, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, has informed the Senate of the government’s plan to probe Islamabad Airport corruption scandal.

He said that the cost had exceeded by Rs 70 billion i.e. from Rs 35 billion to Rs 105 billion. The project that started in 2006 was due to be completed in 2010, however, it was completed in 2018. There’s still work under progress which will take the cost up to Rs 125 billion.

The decision to start a new inquiry comes after the Civil Aviation Authority’s failure to clarify the Parliament’s reservations. According to the details, the committee, which was created a year ago, said in its report that those involved in corruption were not traceable.

Senator Behramand Khan Tangi bashed the committee for closing the case without finding the culprits.

It clear that you are safeguarding some powerful people involved in high-level corruption but we will not let go of this until the conclusion of the case.

PIA CEO, Arshad Malik, also shared his vision of uplifting the national flag carrier through various efforts. He also informed the committee of Sindh government’s illegal occupation of PIA’s restaurant in Larkana.
