Shan Masood Believes He Needs More Chances to Become a Star

Pakistan’s opening batsman Shan Masood has blamed the selectors for his low average in Test matches.

While attending a press conference held at Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore, Shan claimed that he has not been given a consistent chance to prove his worth.

I am not satisfied with my performances. A star player requires just one opportunity, however I have never been given the opportunity to play consistently.

He further added that any professional cricketer never backs away from a challenge but they require appropriate time on the main stage to showcase their talent and fulfill their potential.

I would perform well in any responsibility that is given to me by the PCB. The news about me being the next captain in the media is just a rumour at this point. A professional cricketer is never afraid.

Shan also added that lack of international cricket is consistently hurting the cricketers across Pakistan and appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to arrange pre-season conditioning camps.

This is the first time a pre-conditioning camp has been organised right before a season. The physical fitness of the players is being focused in the camp. Batting and bowling practise sessions are also about to start in the camp.  Our players are being held back by the lack of international cricket in Pakistan.

Shan Masood has played 15 Test matches and averages 26.43 at a strike-rate of 43.81. Do you think he has been given a fair chance? Let us know in the comments section below.

  • One can’t understand Pakistan’s selectors’ mindset. They try to their fullest to destroy carriers of their domestic star performers. Shan has a phenomenal record in List A cricket which is equivalent to ODIs. But he has got the most chances in Tests which is not his strong field. Just like Fawad Alam who has an exceptional record in First Class but only given one opportunity in Tests while given many chances in ODIs which is not his strength based upon his domestic performances. I believe players should be given chances as per their strengths and that’s where they can shine.
