Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) has decided to stage a demonstration outside Higher Education Commission (HEC) headquarters located in Islamabad on 24 August.
Teachers from all universities across Pakistan will participate in the protest against HEC next month. The protestors will demand resignation from HEC Chairman during the protests.
FAPUASA’s leadership believes that the policies of HEC Chairman, Tariq Banuri, are anti-education that are damaging the higher education sector of Pakistan.
In an official statement, FAPUASA leadership of Federal and Punjab bodies held an online meeting in which the call to protest was given. FAPUASA President, Dr. Sohail Yousaf, Vice-President, Dr. Nimat ullah Leghari, Punjab President, Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry and representatives from all universities attended the virtual conference.
FAPUASA has also demanded that HEC should honor the agreement signed between FAPUASA and HEC Punjab to repeal the Uniform Model Universities Act. The association has also called for the immediate issuance of ante-date appointment notification.
Dr. Yousaf asserted that only VCs are eligible to chair the meetings of the syndicates of their universities and called for adequate representation of the faculty in the syndicates of the newly established universities of Punjab.
Dr. Mumtaz requested the federal government to announce the reopening of all universities across Pakistan after Eid-ul-Azha under strict COVID-19 SOPs.
