Morocco Leaves Palestinian Cause and Normalizes Ties With Israel

Morocco and Israel have agreed to normalize relations thanks to a deal brokered by the US President Donald Trump.

With this, Morocco has become the fourth Muslim country since August this year to have normalized ties with Israel. Sudan, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates being the other three.

Morocco will now formally establish full diplomatic relations and resume official contacts with Israel.

In exchange for normalizing ties with Israel, the US has also recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, a disputed territory stretching over 266,000 km² bordering Morocco in the South.

Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, has said the Trump administration has achieved another historic milestone in the form of a peace agreement between Morocco and Israel.

On the other hand, Palestinians have rejected the agreement between Morocco and Israel as they had with the three other Muslim countries, arguing that Muslim states are abandoning the Palestinian cause by normalizing ties with Israel.
