Imran Khan Does Not Interfere in PCB’s Matters: Wasim Khan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO, Wasim Khan, said that Prime Minister Imran Khan does not interfere in cricketing matters of the board. PM Imran is the patron in chief of PCB and is consulted in important matters but he does not give directives on the cricketing matters of the board.

Wasim said that the PCB is working towards a five-year plan, established with recommendations from PM Imran.

“We were reconstituted in 2019 and the [PCB patron-in-chief] Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is a former player himself, has an opinion on the matters but it doesn’t mean he goes around giving directions. We are an autonomous system under which the Chairman Ehsan Mani makes his own decision,” Wasim said.

Wasim also talked about the possibility of a Pakistan and India bilateral series in the near future. He said that Pakistan is always ready to play against their neighbors, but India, on the other hand, has been reluctant on establishing a cricketing relationship with Pakistan. He said that the Pakistan cricket team is ready to play and the ball is in the court of BCCI.

He reiterated that it will be difficult for Pakistan and India to play under the current tense situation.

Wasim also said that the confirmation from Cricket South Africa for their tour of Pakistan is exciting news and this will pave the way for other top international teams to tour the country.

“New Zealand and then England will come to Pakistan next year. West Indies team will visit Pakistan in December,” he concluded.
