Javed Miandad Thinks Babar Azam’s Absence Means Nothing for Pakistan

Former captain of Pakistan, Javed Miandad, believes that Pakistan will perform well despite the absence of captain Babar Azam. Miandad said that these things happen in sports and it provides a chance for other players in the team to step up and show their worth.

Babar has been ruled out of the T20I series after suffering from a fractured thumb in a practice session on Sunday. The number two ranked T20I batsman in the world is advised at least a 12 days rest by the medical staff and his participation in the first Test match is also in doubt.

Miandad said that Babar’s absence will obviously be missed, but it should not have a major impact on the performance of the team. He said that cricket is not a game of individuals, it is always a team effort and every player in the team is crucial.

“Imran Khan or Javed Miandad did not win the 1992 World Cup for Pakistan single-handedly, it was a collective team effort that brought us that glory,” Miandad said.

Miandad added that there are eleven players on the field that are expected to perform and win matches for Pakistan.

Miandad also appreciated New Zealand’s performances over the past few years. He said that they have always been a difficult team to beat at home and they have improved considerably over the past few years.

Miandad is hopeful of Pakistan’s chances to clinch the series. He said that although New Zealand is a strong side, the Pakistan team has some brilliant players as well and if they perform to the best of their abilities then Pakistan will be able to win the series.

He advised the team to play fearless but sensible cricket and tackle the pressure of such matches.
