Fakhar Zaman to Get Honorary Rank in Pakistan Navy

Flamboyant opening batsman, Fakhar Zaman, will be given an honorary rank by Pakistan Navy in appreciation for his services to the country.

A native of Mardan, Fakhar joined the Pakistan Navy in 2007 but left the service in 2013 to pursue his dream of playing international cricket. He joined the domestic circuit and his exceptional performances caught the eye of the national selectors.

Fakhar made his debut for Pakistan in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy group stage match against South Africa. He became a national hero when he scored a century against arch-rivals India in the final of the Champions Trophy, helping Pakistan to win the match by 158 runs to lift their first-ever ICC Champions Trophy.

He scored a double century in an ODI against Zimbabwe in 2018, becoming the first and only Pakistani to do so. Fakhar Zaman took only 18 innings to reach 1,000 ODI runs, becoming the fastest ever batsman to achieve the feat.

Fakhar Zaman has played 47 ODIs and 40 T20Is for Pakistan and his record has been impressive. He has scored 1,960 runs at an average of 45.58 and a strike rate of 95.23 in ODIs, while he has scored 838 runs at an average of 22.05 and a strike rate of 134.08 in T20Is.

Fakhar was named in the 35-man squad for the tour of New Zealand but was sidelined from the tour as he fell ill on the eve of the squad’s departure.

Fakhar will be awarded the honorary rank in a ceremony later this month in Islamabad.
