Fog Results in a Massive Accident on Motorway

It has been reported that a huge accident has occurred on the M-2 Motorway near Sheikhupura. Reportedly, around 20 cars collided with each other due to poor visibility caused by thick fog on the motorway. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

The motorway police force, the fire brigade, and ambulances arrived instantly to attend to possible injuries and casualties.

Rescue 1122 teams and police officers reported that there had been significant damage to the vehicles but no serious injuries or casualties had occurred.

About three weeks ago, a meeting chaired by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP), Dr. Abid Khan, was held to address concerns about the growing number of highway accidents caused by the fog.

The attendees discussed the deployment of forces, foglights, reflectors, and soft barriers among other resources to prevent accidents.

They also reviewed the security and safety concerns for the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway and discussed the provision of ambulances, recovery vehicles, road furniture, and fiber cabins along it to facilitate dealing with accidents.

The DIG PHP told the attendees that in case of poor visibility on the motorway, the patrolling beat officer should inform his designated district officer about it before taking suitable action.
