The likes of Quinton De Kock, Faf Du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Rassie Van Der Dussen, and Anrich Nortje will not be available for the T20I series as they have been given ample time to rest and prepare for their next series which is scheduled to start in April.

The Test series between Pakistan and South Africa is scheduled to begin on 26 January in National Stadium Karachi, while the T20I series will take place at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore from 11-14 February.

According to South Africa director of cricket, Graeme Smith, the decision to send the Test squad back is taken keeping in view the Covid-19 protocols and the workload of the players who will have to spend extended periods within a bio-secure bubble. Graeme Smith believes that South Africa had to make the required changes to put on a good showing in both the Test and T20I series against Pakistan and Test series against Australia.
