Legendary Pakistani Cricketer Reveals How Babar Can Become a Better Captain

Former Pakistan leg-spinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, has offered a piece of advice for the national team’s all-format captain, Babar Azam.

During an interview with a local sports website, Pakistan’s former bowling coach, Mushtaq Ahmed, said that the prolific batsman is an honest captain, an attribute that could help the team in the long run.

From what I have seen, Babar seems like an honest captain, and he can go and say to his players that this is the fault in your game because as a leader sometimes you have to talk to your players in this manner to convey the brand of cricket the team is trying to play.

The maestro leg-spinner realized that if the current coaching staff comprising of Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Younis Khan, who are all former captains, guide Babar Azam and stay on the same page, then he would learn the art of leadership quickly.

Babar was appointed as captain in white-ball cricket in May 2019, after former skipper, Sarfaraz Ahmed, was sacked owing to the team’s poor performances in the ICC World Cup 2019. He was then named Test captain after Azhar Ali was discharged ahead of the New Zealand tour due to continuous failures of the team against ‘SENA’ countries.

However, Babar could not play a single game on the tour due to a thumb injury and took over the reins in the first Test match against South Africa in Karachi, which the team won by seven wickets. The second and final Test of the two-match series will start from February 4 in Rawalpindi.
