Samsung Reveals How the Upgraded Single Shot Mode Works on Galaxy S21

Samsung introduced the Single Take camera feature with the Galaxy S20 series last year. This feature allows you to capture the best photos while simultaneously recording a video. It has returned once again on the Galaxy S21 series with several improvements on board and Samsung has also shared what goes on behind the scenes.

The new and improved Single Shot on the Galaxy S21 takes 10 photos in a second while recording a video for 15 seconds, up from 5 seconds on the Galaxy S20. This video is analyzed with AI which then picks out the best moments from the video and suggests ways to improves the captured content.

The AI also applies Portrait Mode on people and pets, which blurs the background and makes the subject stand out. The Aesthetic Engine is able to discard photos where someone blinked or is looking down. This engine was trained with a sample of 300,000 photos selected by professionals.

Another AI engine is responsible for discarding photos with poor angles or frames. If it is a landscape shot instead, it will only keep the most interesting part and use AI tweaking to enhance colors and lighting.

If it is a fast-paced video, the AI is able to apply Dynamic Slow Motion and if it’s a slow scene, it can also apply a 3x fast forward effect.
