Complete Lockdown Likely to be Imposed in Punjab & KP

National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) is mulling over imposing a complete lockdown in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

On Sunday, NCOC met under the chairmanship of Federal Planning Minister, Asad Umar, and discussed additional measures considering the recent sharp rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths in both provinces.

Keeping in view of the prevailing situation in Punjab and KP, NCOC recommended the respective provincial governments to impose a complete lockdown in the provinces to curb the resurging Coronavirus.

Besides, NCOC recommended relevant authorities of both provincial governments to ensure complete compliance with NCOC-issued directives including mandatory use of face masks.

Last week, the Planning Minister said that the third wave of Coronavirus outbreak has started in Pakistan and the UK variant of the disease is the reason behind the recent increase in COVID-19 cases.

Pakistan has reported more than 2,000 cases of Coronavirus every day since 10 March. During the last 24 hours, 2,253 cases and 29 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported. Overall, Pakistan has reported 607,453 cases and 13,537 deaths due to Coronavirus since February 2019.
