Heavy Rain Causes Leakage in Peshawar’s BRT Underpasses

Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service has become the center of negative attention from the media and the public once again, as the recent heavy rains have caused the roofs of several tunnels to leak, resulting in the temporary suspension of certain feeder routes.

A media report on the matter highlighted that another reason for the roof leakage is the non-availability of a proper drainage system, which resulted in a large amount of water accumulating on the roof of the underpasses.

The spokesperson for the Trans Peshawar BRT service told the media that the Peshawar Development Authority is working on resolving the leakage issue so the scan resume as soon as possible.

The spokesperson further informed the media that due to the accumulation of water in the underpasses, feeder routes 3, 5, 6, and 7 shall remain suspended until the issue is resolved, whereas the main corridor service shall run as per regular schedule.

Upon being questioned about the maintenance affairs of the service, the spokesperson told the media that Trans Peshawar is only liable to oversee the service operations while ensuring the maintenance of the routes is the duty of the Peshawar Development Authority.
