Azam recently trained with Yousuf for a brief period at the NHPC, and the rookie impressed the legendary batsman with his power and range of strokes. Yousuf believes that Azam needs to add composure in his batting and try to model his batting around players like Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, and Rohit Sharma to improve further.

“Azam Khan is young. I think he has played only one first-class season. He is an excited and emotional player. He loves hitting sixes. If you look at his cover drive, he plays that well too. He has the on drive as well. But then, suddenly, he wants to hit it out of the park. This is because he is more focused on that type of cricket like league cricket. Another thing is that spectators love watching sixes being hit,” Yousuf said.

Yousuf said that he is looking forward to working with Azam in the future and teach him about the importance of spending time on the crease. Yousuf said that Azam has the ability to hit the ball out of the park, but he needs to learn that hitting a six on every ball is not possible.

Former middle-order maestro revealed that the main focus of recent training with Azam was to try and reduce his weight, which will, in turn, improve his performances on the pitch as he will learn the importance of running between the wickets and strike rotation.

Yousuf also showered praises on the fitness and performances of the current national team members. He appreciated the performances of Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Hafeez and labeled the team members as physically and mentally fit.
