Akram criticized the national team management for their treatment of Amir and for not utilizing his services. He said that they should not have taken offense to Amir’s decision of retiring from Test cricket and should not have sidelined the left-arm pacer from the national team.

“I am very surprised because Amir is a very experienced bowler and one of the best in the world in T20 cricket. Personally, I think he should be in Pakistan’s World T20 squad,” Akram said.

“Other players have done it but no one says anything about them. So why Amir? I think if he is available for other formats he should be playing for Pakistan,” he added.

The legendary fast bowler said that Pakistan should realize that experienced fast bowlers are essential in winning major trophies and opposition batsmen will be scared to face someone with the ability of Amir. He believes that Amir would be a perfect opening bowler who can take wickets upfront and can guide the younger fast bowlers.

Akram also advised the head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, and captain, Babar Azam, to start finalizing Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad and said that the upcoming tour of England is their last chance to experiment with the side before deciding a select pool of players to chose from.

Akram also talked about Pakistan’s chances in the upcoming World T20, saying it would be good for Pakistan if the ICC World T20 is shifted to UAE from India as Pakistan are used to the conditions and can utilize their resources well.
