PM Imran Launches Succession Certificates for Punjab, Heads Pakistan Towards E-Governance and E-Voting

Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the Letter of Administration and Succession Certificates Initiative for Punjab under which the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will issue succession certificates to legal heirs within fifteen days to voiding the need to visit courts.

The premier addressed the attendees of the launching ceremony in Islamabad and said that the goal of the government is to facilitate the people and to lead Pakistan towards e-governance and e-voting.

“We often forego the day-to-day things that genuinely facilitate people and make their lives easier. Today, technology has created multiple shortcuts that can be used,” he said.

He gave the example of the Shaukat Khanum Hospital where software had been introduced to make all the records and documentation paperless.

“This has nullified any chances of corruption or false receipts. Our aim is to bring a similar system in the government,” he said.

The premier stated that the government is also “computerizing land records,” and added that all the records in Islamabad will be digitized by August.

While talking about electoral reforms, he said that the government wants overseas Pakistanis to vote in the next elections.

“They are such a big asset, the country runs on their remittances. But they are unable to participate in elections,” he added.

He also wants the NADRA to launch a foolproof system and use electronic voting machines to eliminate rigging in elections.
