Umar Akmal Finally Allowed to Play Cricket

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allowed middle-order batsman, Umar Akmal, to resume cricketing activities in the country. According to Akmal’s rehabilitation program, he has been allowed to take part in club cricket.

After the completion of his rehabilitation program, which is expected to conclude next month, Akmal will be allowed to participate in Pakistan’s 2021/2022 domestic season.

Akmal’s rehabilitation program started last month, and according to the PCB, Akmal has shown remorse for his actions, which is a major sign of positive progress. During the program, Akmal has attended an anti-corruption lecture and participated in a Q&A session conducted by the Security and Anti-Corruption Department.

The 31-year old was banned from cricket-related activities due to his involvement in suspicious activities. Akmal’s ban was reduced from 18 months to 12 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) along with a fine of Rs. 4.2 million by PCB and CAS.

Akmal has represented Pakistan in 16 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 84 T20Is ever since his debut in 2009. He is one of Pakistan’s leading run-scorers in T20Is, having scored 1,690 runs at an average of 26.00 and a strike rate of 122.73.
