Babar Azam Unhappy With Ramiz Raja’s Interference in T20 World Cup Squad Selection

Pakistan’s all-format captain, Babar Azam, is reportedly unhappy with the national team’s T20 World Cup squad. According to reports, Babar wanted to include four players of his choice in the T20 World Cup Squad, but his suggestions were ignored, and Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) incoming chairman insisted on picking other players.

It is reported that Babar wanted the openers, Sharjeel Khan and Fakhar Zaman, along with the all-rounder, Faheem Ashraf, and the leg-spinner, Usman Qadir, in the squad for the mega event. However, Ramiz overruled Babar’s choices and suggested picking Sohaib Maqsood, Asif Ali, Khushdil Shah, and Azam Khan in the squad.

Sources revealed that Ramiz suggested that even if one of the aforementioned players performs in the T20 World Cup, then there is a good chance for the national team to win the title.

Sources further added that Ramiz advised Babar to focus on playing and not worry about the team selection. The comments have not been taken lightly by Babar as he expressed his displeasure to his teammates.

Ramiz will be officially appointed as the PCB chairman after elections on 13 September, but he has already made some major changes to the Pakistan cricket setup. After the announcement of the T20 World Cup squad, head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, and bowling coach, Waqar Younis, turned in their resignations for their roles.

It is reported that Ramiz had already told Waqar a few days before that they will not be continuing their roles once Ramiz is officially announced as chairman.
