Former England Coach Likely to Replace Misbah ul Haq as Head Coach

Former captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, along with bowling coach, Waqar Younis, shocked the Pakistani cricketing fraternity as they announced their resignation just a few weeks before the start of the T20 World Cup. Former England head coach, Peter Moores, is rumored to be the front-runner for the role of Pakistan cricket team’s head coach after the resignation of Misbah-ul-Haq.

According to sources, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keen on appointing a foreign coach, and Moores is seen as the ideal candidate for the job.

Moores, a former first-class cricketer, has previously worked as the head coach of the England cricket team on two occasions. His first stint lasted for two years, from 2007 to 2009, before being sacked after a public falling out with the former England player, Kevin Pietersen. His second stint lasted for over a year. He was sacked after England’s dismal showing in the 2015 ODI World Cup.

It is also rumored that former all-rounder, Azhar Mahmood, is in line to replace Waqar Younis as the bowling coach for the national team. Mahmood is currently serving as the bowling coach for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) outfit, Multan Sultans. He has also previously worked as the bowling coach of the national team.

Currently, PCB has appointed the former international cricketers, Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq, as the interim coaches for the national team and they will be with the side for the upcoming limited-overs series against New Zealand.
