All US-Approved Vaccines Are Effective Against Delta Variant

All three Coronavirus vaccines approved in the US including  Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) are effective at preventing hospitalization due to the Delta variant of the viral infection, data from the US CDC has revealed.

The CDC’s data is based on the evaluation of 33,000 cases of both vaccinated and unvaccinated adults who required urgent care, visited emergency, or got admitted to hospital due to Coronavirus-like symptoms between June and August as Delta variant raged across the US.

According to the CDC, Moderna’s vaccine offered 92% protection against urgent care and emergency visits due to the Delta variant, Pfizer offered 77% protection, and J&J offered 65% protection. A similar pattern was observed for hospitalization.

Compared to fully vaccinated individuals, unvaccinated individuals were 5-7 times more likely to receive urgent care, visit emergency, or admission to hospital after testing positive for the Delta variant.

Speaking in this regard, CDC’s Director, Rochelle Walensky, said, “These findings reaffirm that all three vaccines afford “high protection” against Coronavirus infections that make people sick enough to seek urgent or emergency care or be hospitalized”.
