Kiwi Captain Labels Cancelation of First Pakistan Tour in 18 Years a Real Shame

New Zealand’s all-format captain, Kane Williamson, has expressed his disappointment at New Zealand Cricket’s (NZC) decision to abandon their tour of Pakistan abruptly. Williamson labeled the incident as a ‘real shame’.

Williamson stated that Pakistan is one of the most passionate cricketing nations in the world and expressed his disappointment at the way things panned out. He said that he feels the sentiment of the Pakistani fans who were looking forward to New Zealand’s historic tour of the country.

The 31-year old said that he is still not aware of the details behind the cancelation of the tour as the decision to cancel the tour was taken suddenly. He said that he will be informed about the reason in the next few days.

Williamson was hopeful that cricket will resume in Pakistan in the near future and every cricketing nation will tour the country to play bilateral series. He said that as a professional cricketer, he looks forward to playing cricket in every nation and Pakistan is one of the most passionate cricketing nations in the world.

“I certainly hope there is no lasting impact from it because it is a special place for cricket to be and there have been a lot of strides forward to see cricket go back into Pakistan and play there safely. We have seen that happen on a number of occasions, so hopefully, there is plenty more cricket there to come,” Williamson stated.

The Kiwi captain is currently in the UAE to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Williamson will lead New Zealand in the highly-anticipated encounter against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held on 26 October.
