Sports Board Still Unable to Install Floodlights in Jinnah Stadium Despite Promises

Floodlights in Jinnah Stadium still have not been installed. At the same time, the false promises of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) have continued since the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Cambodia in October.

Pakistan defeated Cambodia and reached the Round 2 of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the first time in history. It was a historic result that helped put Pakistan back on the football map.

Saudi Arabia will now come to Pakistan in June and Pakistan has a glorious chance of hosting Roberto Mancini’s men but the submission date for the venue of that match to FIFA is April 7.

In January 2024, a rift was visible between the Pakistan Sports Board and the Haroon Malik-led Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). It was evident that the problematic false promises by the PSB could not bore any fruitful results.

The fiasco between the two parties was followed by three FIFA extensions for the submission of the venue to host the home match against Jordan.

The last date of the third deadline was February 9 and even after that PSB took no measures to install the floodlights while Director General Shoaib Khoso kept on giving reassurance that the floodlights would be installed one week before the Jordan game.

Since the triumphant victory against Cambodia in October, the PSB has displayed delaying tactics in addition to that they also conducted a Kabaddi tournament at the Jinnah Stadium turf, two weeks before the game against Jordan that caused severe damage to the pitch of Jinnah Stadium.

The delaying tactics are still ongoing and it seems like if the lights do not get installed before the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match against Saudi Arabia in June then the possibility of hosting Manchester City legend Yaya Toure, who is Saudi’s assistant coach, and manager Roberto Mancini can become a distant dream.

Pakistan needs to take action imminently as the date for venue submission to FIFA for hosting the Saudi Arabia match is coming closer, time is ticking.
