In 2024, the 8th Children of Asia International Sports Games returned to their birthplace, Yakutsk, bringing together young athletes from across the continent. Yakutsk is the largest administrative-territorial unit in the world and the largest region of the Russian Federation.
The capital of the republic is also the largest city built on permafrost. It was in Yakutsk back in 1996 that the Children of Asia Games were held for the first time, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic movement.
