Heavy Rains and Nationwide Urban Flooding Predicted for Next Week

The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department have forecasted heavy rainfall across the country in the coming week.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of potential flash floods and urban flooding across various regions due to the expected heavy rainfall, which could lead to rising water levels in local nullahs.

Met Office Director General Mehar Sahibzada Khan stated that the heavy rainfall is expected to last until July 21. He urged the public to take precautions to prevent any potential issues during the rain spell.

He added that all four provinces, along with Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), will see a new round of rain. Furthermore, landslides could block roads in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during this period.

He also advised tourists to avoid areas prone to landslides. Speaking to PTV News, he recommended that citizens keep children away from flooded areas and avoid contact with electrical wires and poles.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for heavy rain across several districts in the province. The PDMA expects the monsoon weather to persist until July 20.

Rain and thunderstorms are anticipated in isolated areas including Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Multan, D.G. Khan, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, and Bahawalnagar.

Kashmir is expected to experience partly cloudy weather with rain and thunderstorms.
