Serbia to Immortalize Novak Djokovic by Building a Museum to Celebrate His Legacy

Serbia has announced plans to build a museum dedicated to tennis star Novak Djokovic, following his dramatic gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics, becoming only the fifth player in history to win an Olympic gold medal and all four Grand Slams tournaments.

“We had the first discussions about the construction of the Novak Djokovic Museum, which is expected to become another attraction for the city,” Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed the news on Tuesday.

“Palma de Mallorca has a museum dedicated to Rafael Nadal. We will strive to showcase what Djokovic has done for our country in accordance with his merits and at the same time attract tourists,” President Vučić added.

The Serbian government aims to complete the museum before Belgrade hosts the World Expo in 2027. The museum is expected to draw both tennis enthusiasts and general tourists, highlighting Djokovic’s journey from a young prodigy in Serbia to a global sports icon.

Novak Djokovic has long been revered as a national hero in Serbia. With 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, he is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Djokovic has also been actively involved in promoting sports in Serbia, running a successful tennis academy and frequently participating in national sporting events.

The announcement comes on the heels of his recent triumph at the Paris Olympics, where Novak Djokovic won the gold medal in men’s singles tennis, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in a closely contested match with scores of 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/2). With this win, Djokovic joined an elite group of players—including Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, Steffi Graf, and Serena Williams—who have won all four Grand Slam tournaments and an Olympic singles gold medal.

Djokovic’s victory in Paris also made him the oldest singles champion since tennis was reintroduced to the Olympics in 1988, while simultaneously ending Alcaraz’s bid to add Olympic gold to his impressive collection of titles from the French Open and Wimbledon this year.

In Serbia, Djokovic’s victory was met with widespread celebration. Crowds gathered in main squares across the country, waving flags and singing patriotic songs to honor their national hero.
