Younis Khan Urges Jay Shah to Guarantee India’s Involvement in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Former Pakistan cricket captain Younis Khan has urged newly-appointed International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah to demonstrate true sportsmanship by ensuring India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is set to take place in Pakistan.

Younis extended a warm welcome to Shah, expressing optimism that his leadership could herald a new era for the sport globally.

He emphasized the importance of mutual respect and cooperation between cricketing nations. “With Jay Shah at the helm, cricket has a real chance to flourish,” he stated.

“It’s crucial that the ICC chief takes, initiatives that encourage India to participate in Pakistan, and likewise, for Pakistan to visit India. This is what sportsmanship is all about,” he added further.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s recent struggles, including a heavy 10-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test of a two-match series, Younis Khan urged the national team to play with renewed determination.

“Playing at home always brings pressure. Our players must learn to thrive under it. Boosting morale is essential,” advised the former Pakistan skipper.

Younis, who led Pakistan to victory in the 2009 T20 World Cup, also addressed remarks made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who expressed concerns over a perceived lack of talent in domestic cricket.

Disagreeing with this assessment, Younis reaffirmed his belief in the depth of talent within Pakistan’s domestic circuit. “I’m not sure why the PCB chairman feels there’s no talent. Our domestic cricket is brimming with potential,” he concluded.
