England Test skipper, Ben Stokes has hinted at a potential future in coaching as he approaches the latter stages of his cricketing career.
In a recent interview with a British media outlet, Ben Stokes reflecting on his illustrious career, revealed his intention to remain deeply involved in the sport, whenever he decided to hang up his boots.
The 33-year-old all-rounder, who has been instrumental in England’s triumphs in the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup, expressed a strong desire to contribute to cricket through coaching in the future.
“Cricket has been my life and my passion, When the time comes to hang up my boots, I don’t envision leaving the game entirely. I’d love to help shape and mentor the next generation.” said the England Test captain.
Despite his clear interest in coaching, Stokes did not entirely rule out a return to international play, even in the limied-overs format. The 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan could potentially see his comeback in white-ball cricket.
“It’s hard to turn down major events,” Stokes admitted. “If I don’t play another white-ball game, I’ll be proud of what I’ve achieved. However, there might be discussions about my involvement in future events, and I’ll be open to whatever comes.”
Stokes has been a key figure in England’s recent successes, but his career has been plagued by injuries, with his latest hamstring issue sidelining him from the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
The England captain is expected to lead the three-lions in the Test series against Pakistan that is set to commence on October 7.
