Second Edition of Sindh Premier League Set to be Held in Qatar

The second edition of the Sindh Premier League cricket tournament is expected to take place in Qatar, as confirmed by sources of the league’s delegation.

Following the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari, the Sindh government has granted in-principle approval for holding the event abroad.

Last week, the league’s delegation met with President Zardari and subsequently with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Previously the Sindh Premier League delegation also conducted two seasons of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) and this will be their second venture in a Pakistani domestic T20 league.

The delegation of SPL had expressed a preference for Qatar as the venue, while the Sindh government had suggested hosting the matches in Karachi and Hyderabad.

However, in a subsequent meeting with the league officials, Sindh’s Minister for Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Meher, reiterated the provincial government’s position.

Sources indicate that the decision to approve the tournament in Qatar was influenced by the lack of adequate facilities in Karachi and Hyderabad. Consequently, the league’s matches will now be staged in Qatar.

The tournament will feature six franchise teams namely Benazirabad Lions, Hyderabad Bahadurs, Karachi Ghazis, Larkana Challengers, Sukkur Patriots, and the inaugural champions, Mirpurkhas Tigers.
