Fast bowler Khurram Shahzad will be fit for the Test matches against England in October after he avoided a potentially serious injury setback, according to recent reports.
Shahzad, 24, was a crucial figure in the recent Test series against Bangladesh, despite being sidelined for most of the final day of the decisive match in Rawalpindi.
Bangladesh’s victory by six wickets not only secured their 2-0 series triumph but also highlighted Shahzad’s pivotal role throughout the series as he picked up a six-for in this first innings.
Khurram Shahzad had been instrumental in dismantling Bangladesh’s batting lineup during the first innings, delivering career-best figures of 6 for 90.
However, his performance was affected due to injury in the second innings as he managed only 1 for 40 in seven overs against Bangladesh.
Following the match, Shahzad experienced pain and stiffness on his left side, prompting an array of scans. Fortunately, these tests have ruled out any fractures, and the medical advice suggests a brief rest period.
This diagnosis provides positive news of Shahzad’s participation in the upcoming Test series against England, set to commence next month.
This news comes as a relief given Shahzad’s recent injury history. After sustaining a stress fracture of the rib during his debut in Perth last December, he had been out of action for several months. His return to competitive cricket was limited to the recent Tests against Bangladesh, with no prior first-class appearances.
To ensure his complete recovery, Shahzad will skip the Champions One-Day Cup next week. Another MRI scan is planned to assess his progress as he gears up for the first Test against England on October 7 in Multan.
