The Afghanistan national cricket team has expressed dissatisfaction with the facilities at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium in Greater Noida, India following the cancellation of play on the first two consecutive days due to poor weather conditions and a wet outfield, despite no significant rain.
The match, a one-off Test against New Zealand, was scheduled to begin on September 9, but the condition of the ground has delayed the start.
Despite efforts to prepare the venue, Afghanistan’s cricket board has raised concerns over inadequate infrastructure. Reports suggest the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has officially decided not to use the stadium for future matches, citing poor conditions for training and general mismanagement.
“There are no basic facilities, and even the players are unhappy with the current situation,” a senior ACB official revealed, confirming that the team’s future games would be relocated to Lucknow.
This match holds particular significance as Afghanistan faces New Zealand in a Test match for the first time in their history.
Under the leadership of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afghanistan has only won two of its nine Test matches so far, but their strong performances in limited-overs cricket have drawn attention.
Shahidi, speaking ahead of the match, expressed hope that better arrangements would be made for future games. He emphasized the importance of having a stable, well-equipped home venue in India as Afghanistan continues to grow its Test cricket credentials.
