Pakistani pacer Mohammad Abbas has joined an elite group of bowlers, becoming the 14th Pakistani cricketer to take 700 first-class wickets.
A master of seam and swing, Abbas reached this milestone while playing for Hampshire in county cricket, showcasing his consistent excellence at the domestic level.
Despite his remarkable achievements in first-class cricket, Abbas’s international career has been marked by sporadic appearances. He has represented Pakistan in 25 Test matches, taking 90 wickets at an impressive average of 23.02.
However, many cricket enthusiasts believe he has not been given the consistent opportunities he deserves for Pakistan at an international level. Known for his control and precision, Abbas’s bowling style has often troubled top batters, making his omission from the national team a point of contention among fans and analysts alike.
In addition to his stint with Hampshire, Mohammad Abbas has previously featured in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), representing Multan Sultans.
His experience across different formats and leagues has made him a valuable player both domestically and internationally.
Abbas’s latest achievement cements his status as one of Pakistan’s finest seam bowlers. With his career far from over, there remains hope that the selectors may reconsider his exclusion from the national side, allowing him to showcase his talents on the international stage once more.
The 34-year-old played his last Test match against West Indies in 2021 but since then he has not received a call-up from the PCB.
