Want privacy at night but natural light during the day? Home Depot’s new smart glass front door offers a solution.
The Feather River door, a prehung fiberglass door, has built-in smart glass that switches from clear to opaque. A button on the door controls the glass, or you can use the Home Depot Hubspace app on your phone. You can even set a schedule for the glass to automatically adjust between day and night. Prices are comparable to standard front doors, starting at $798 for a quarter lite, $899 for a half lite, and $998 for a full or three-quarter lite.

Home Depot wants to make smart homes simpler with Hubspace. This smart home platform doesn’t need a separate hub—just the Hubspace app. It controls a variety of Home Depot’s own smart devices, from lights and shades to fans and thermostats.
The new smart glass door is the first time Hubspace is working with an outside company. It works with the Hubspace app and connects to voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Home, letting you control the door’s glass with voice commands.
The smart glass in the door uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and needs power to operate, which is provided by a built-in battery located in the door frame. You can also power it with a USB cable if an outlet is nearby. The door comes with a spare battery and charger.
The battery only powers the smart glass and its connectivity. The Feather River door itself doesn’t power smart doorbells or locks. It’s a standard door, aside from the glass.
