Australia’s Potential XI for 1st ODI Against Pakistan

Australia is set to field a well-rounded and powerful playing XI in the 1st ODI against Pakistan as they look to send a strong opening message ahead of a busy cricketing summer.

Known for their aggressive approach, especially at home, Australia will aim to leverage their strengths in pace and power-hitting to outplay Pakistan.

With experienced campaigners and young talents in the squad, Australia’s playing XI is likely to include a blend of top-order stability, middle-order explosiveness, and a versatile bowling attack suited to Australian conditions.

Australia’s Potential XI for 1st ODI:

Opening Pair: Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short

With David Warner retired and Travis Head away, Australia is likely to field two new batters at the top. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short are equally destructive on their day meaning Rizwan and co will have to be cerebral if they want to neutralize their powers.

Middle Order: Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Josh Iglis

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne remain the ballast in Australia’s middle order while Inglis’ rise gives them another strong presence during the latter overs of the game.

Lower Middle Order and All-Rounders: Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Hardie.

With no Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis likely to sit the first ODI out, Australia is likely to stick to the same principles of playing batting all-rounders who can contribute in each department. Maxwell remains a ruthless finisher while Hardie is still finding his feet at the international level but has the skills to become a star in the game.

Spin Option: Adam Zampa

If Australia has a weakness in their side, it is their lack of spin options but Zampa makes up for it as one of the best in his class.

Pace Attack: Mitchell Starc, Sean Abbott, and Pat Cummins

Josh Hazlewood will play a domestic game on the day of the first ODI meaning the door will be open for Abbott to lay a claim as one of the pacers. Starc and Captain Cummins’ inclusion in the team is self-explanatory.

Australia’s Probable Playing XI:

1. Jake Fraser-McGurk
2. Matthew Short
3. Steve Smith
4. Marnus Labuschagne
5. Josh Inglis
6. Glenn Maxwell
7. Aaron Hardie
8. Pat Cummins (C)
9. Mitchell Starc
10. Sean Abbott
11. Adam Zampa
