All Schools, Colleges and Universities to be Closed For 3 Days in Lahore

As Lahore continues to grapple with unbreathable smog, a proposal has been put forward to shut down all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The aim is to reduce exposure to hazardous air quality, which has recently reached alarming levels.

The proposal also mentions a “green lockdown” in key areas such as Gulberg, Liberty, MM Alam Road, and the Main Market, alongside neighborhoods near the Shimla Pahari. These measures are intended to minimize pollution and protect residents’ health.

The Commissioner of Lahore Division and the Secretary of Environment will present these proposals to Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb for consideration.

It is pertinent to mention that yesterday, authorities announced that primary schools would remain closed for one week due to dangerously high pollution. Senior environmental protection official Jahangir Anwar confirmed that all classes for children up to age 10, including public, private, and special education institutions, would be suspended from Monday through Saturday.

The weather forecast indicates that prevailing wind patterns will persist over the next six days, contributing to ongoing pollution concerns. The decision aims to safeguard the health of millions of children exposed to the dangerous smog enveloping the city.

  • Most homes hve kids of multiple ages who go to school so just closing down primary classes makes no difference. Close down all schools, colleges and universities. Online classes can be activated.

  • Please declare holidays in all cities of Punjab…..we are also facing severe throat infections, eyes infection, fever due to smog….

  • I don’t understand the policy behind all. I mean primary schools are closed for one week but all the staff must attend school from 8.30-3pm. Are they smog averse? And what exactly they will do in schools? They would be happy to have childrens in school and teaching them but without kids it’s not workable.
