The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Academic Council approved several new programs during its 235th meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shahid Munir. Attendees included faculty deans, the registrar, and academic and administrative department heads.
The council accepted recommendations from the Computer Science Department’s Board of Studies to introduce new Bachelor’s programs in applied computing, information technology, gaming and animation, information systems technology, and an associate degree in information technology and computer engineering.
In addition, the council approved MSc and PhD programs in mineral processing within the Mining Engineering Department, following suggestions from the Board of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering.
A new Bachelor’s program in biomedical sciences was approved for the UET New Campus, along with a Scheme of Studies for an associate degree in applied computing.
Based on recommendations from the Board of the Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical, and Polymer Engineering, the council also approved an MSc in process plant management at UET Lahore. This includes a distance-learning option with smart classrooms for MSc programs in Safety, Health, and Process Plant Management at the New Campus.
Lastly, a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design was approved based on recommendations from the Board of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning.
Prof. Munir highlighted that these initiatives are aimed at aligning UET’s curriculum with industry needs and educational advancements, equipping students with specialized knowledge and practical skills to excel in diverse career fields and emerging sectors.
