Asian Cricket Council Elects New President

In a significant move for Asian cricket, Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket, has officially taken the reins as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Shammi Silva takes over the Asian Cricket Council from Jay Shah who left his post as President after his appointment as the head of the Intentional Cricket Council.

With years of service as the Chairman of the ACC Finance & Marketing Committee, Silva’s extensive background in cricket governance positions him well to steer the ACC forward. Upon his appointment, Silva expressed his gratitude and outlined his goals for his tenure:

It is a great honor to lead the Asian Cricket Council. Cricket is the heartbeat of Asia, and I look forward to working closely with all member nations to elevate the game, provide opportunities for emerging talent, and strengthen the bonds that unite us through this beautiful sport.

His leadership comes at a crucial time for Asian cricket, where the need for grassroots development and nurturing emerging talent is greater than ever. Silva is expected to prioritize initiatives that support the growth of cricket in developing nations, ensuring that the sport continues to flourish on the global stage.

Silva’s appointment also marks the end of Jay Shah’s tenure as ACC President. Under Shah’s guidance, the ACC achieved several remarkable milestones, including securing the highest value for the commercial rights of the ACC Asia Cup from 2024 to 2031.

Shah also introduced a new pathway events structure and played a pivotal role in the continued growth of cricket across the ACC’s member nations.
