Cabinet Approves Amendment to Make Asset Details of Civil Servants Public

The Federal cabinet has reportedly given approval to make an amendment in Civil Servants Act 1973 to meet the International Monetary Fund (IMF) condition related to assets of civil servants.

Sources told ProPakistani that the cabinet has approved a draft related to amendment in Civil Servants Act 1973.

A new section 15-A will be added in the Civil Servants Act 1973 and under the new section, government employees will also have to declare domestic and foreign assets in the portal prepared by the Establishment Division.

The government will also make public all the details of civil servants including domestic and foreign properties as well as investments and details of bank accounts.

Sources said that the Establishment Division will present the draft amendment bill during the ongoing National Assembly session for approval.

It is pertinent to note that the IMF under the $7 billion EFF program had directed the government to make data of government officials public till February 2025.

  • This is good stuff. It’s sad that the IMF has to dictate to Pakistan what is actually good for the Pakistani people. Why did successive military governments not do this? A clearly shows that the military are no friends of the people.

  • This should not be just limited to the civil servant. Politicians, Land lords, Military, Businessmen, Judges, Lawyers should also be included to get exact figures who owns what.

If other than the civil servants are ignored then it will be equivalent to giving a clean chit to the rest and they can enjoy the corruption. All are to be held accountable and declare their assets in / out of Pakistan. Sources of income should also be declared from day one.
