Kusal Medis Heaps Praise on Bowling Talent in PSL

Kusal Mendis has seen his fair share of franchise cricket. From the humid cauldrons of Colombo to the high-veld tracks of South Africa, the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter has operated in some of the world’s most vibrant T20 leagues. However, his maiden stint in the Pakistan Super League has already left an impression on the Sri Lankan international, with one element standing out above all: raw pace.

“I have played in the Lanka Premier League and SA20, but this is my first experience in the PSL,” Mendis said after Quetta Gladiators’ recent fixture against Lahore Qalandars. “The fast bowlers here are of high quality, which makes the league quite competitive.”

The comment, brief yet telling, validates something PSL followers have known for years — this league isn’t just another T20 carnival; it’s a battleground for fast bowling excellence.

Joining Quetta Gladiators this season, Kusal Mendis has already had to contend with the kind of bowling heat that separates contenders from pretenders. In just his first two games, he has faced the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Alzarri Joseph — each with the skill set to match the speed.

While Mendis has looked composed and busy at the crease, it’s clear he knows he’s operating in a different sphere now.

The PSL has earned a reputation for producing some of the finest pace bowlers in the world. It’s no surprise, then, that batters from overseas are often measured not just by the runs they score here — but how they score them.

For Kusal Mendis, the PSL offers both a test and an opportunity. A good run here could elevate his T20 stocks ahead of the World Cup, especially in a format where confidence against quality pace can’t be faked.

For Quetta Gladiators, his ability to handle pressure could be the difference between a playoff push and an early exit. With Finn Allen firing and Rilee Rossouw providing middle-order muscle, Mendis adds a touch of finesse and adaptability.

Quetta and Mendis will be in action next against the Karachi Kings on April 18 in Karachi.
