Peshawar Zalmi faced a crushing defeat against Islamabad United, losing by 102 runs in the fifth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL X) at Rawalpindi Stadium. The only silver lining for Zalmi was the remarkable innings played by Mohammad Haris, who scored a defiant 87 runs off just 47 balls, featuring 12 boundaries and 4 sixes at an impressive strike rate of 185.10.
During the post-match press conference, Mohammad Haris was asked about his approach to tackling spinners, a noted weakness in his game. With a cheeky grin, he remarked, “I used my brain as well today,” before elaborating on his recent improvements.
Haris explained that he has been focusing on incorporating shots like the reverse sweep into his repertoire and emphasized the importance of running singles and twos instead of solely aiming for boundaries, which had previously led to his dismissals.
Haris acknowledged the challenges posed by spinners, noting that their lack of pace makes it harder to score compared to fast bowlers. He humorously mentioned that Naseem Shah, who bowled with variations to disrupt his rhythm, had even been asked by him to bowl faster.
Despite Haris’s valiant effort, Zalmi struggled to chase down a daunting target of 244 runs set by Islamabad United. Sahibzada Farhan was the standout performer for United, scoring a blistering 106 off 52 balls, while Colin Munro contributed a quick 40. Zalmi’s batting lineup faltered, with key players like Babar Azam and Saim Ayub dismissed cheaply, leading to their collapse at 141 all out in just 18.2 overs.
