As T20 cricket gets faster and more aggressive, Mohammad Rizwan has found himself facing questions about whether his style of batting still suits Multan Sultans or even Pakistan’s future plans.
After Multan Sultans’ latest match in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, Rizwan spoke openly about the criticism regarding his strike rate and dismissed his critics in one go.
“I had a 160 strike rate in the first match, and even after that, in some matches, it’s been around 170,” Rizwan said. “Personally, I don’t focus much on these things. If the management requires something from me, they’ll tell me, and I’ll do it differently.”
Mohammad Rizwan’s calm and clear reply assures that he isn’t worried about outside noise. Instead, he trusts that if his team wants a different approach from him, they will communicate it directly, and he will adapt.
This season, Rizwan has shown signs of trying to score faster, something many people wanted to see. He currently sits second in the run-scoring charts, just 10 runs shy of Sahibzada Farhan for the Green Cap, which shows his typical remarkable ability. However, he ranks 19th in the strike-rate department, albeit with an impressive figure of 147.71.
The narrative around Mohammad Rizwan’s strike rate ties broadly into his future with the Pakistan cricket team. With Saim Ayub back and Fakhar Zaman likely to earn a recall as well, it may not bode well for Rizwan’s chances of a comeback. Adding in Sahibzada Farhan, who is practically guaranteed the Pakistan opening spot next to Saim Ayub, and Mohammad Haris, who has impressed in PSL 2025 and can take over the gloves as well, the T20I return looks bleak for the former captain.
Right now, Rizwan is sticking to his approach by staying focused, playing for his team, and not getting caught up in outside criticism. As PSL 2025 moves forward, Rizwan’s performances will be watched closely for not just how many runs he scores, but how quickly he scores them. This could play a big role in deciding his place in Pakistan’s plans for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Whether he earns a place back in the national side is a debate for the future; for now, Mohammad Rizwan remains focused on proving his approach works with the Multan Sultans.
