Here’s the Real Reason Behind Empty Stadiums in PSL 2025

Once the highlight of Pakistan’s cricket calendar, the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025) is struggling to bring in crowds to the stadiums. The excitement that once surrounded the league has faded, with empty seats, muted social media chatter, and a general lack of buzz marking the tournament’s build-up.

Why Fans Are Not Attending PSL 2025 Matches?

Pakistan’s Poor Performances 676 59.4%
PSL Boycott 259 22.7%
Poor Stadium Viewing Experience 151 13.3%
Ticketing Issues 46 4.04%
Other Issues 5 0.56%

Total votes = 1,137

A recent online survey sheds light on why fans are staying away. Out of 1,137 respondents, nearly 60% blamed the national team’s ongoing poor performance for their lack of interest. Big names like Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, and Babar Azam have failed to deliver, and a string of disappointing series losses — including a forgettable Champions Trophy campaign — has left fans disillusioned.

The impact is visible in the stands. Karachi, once a PSL stronghold, has seen such low attendance that the PCB slashed the number of matches in the city from 11 last year to just five this season. Even Lahore, known for its passionate crowds, has seen a noticeable drop in turnout.

The survey also found that 22.7% of fans are boycotting the PSL, mainly over concerns about certain league sponsors, particularly those perceived as pro-Israeli. Many of these fans say they would rather see PSL funds directed toward humanitarian causes, especially in Palestine.

Another 13.3% cited poor stadium experiences, pointing to so-called “upgrades” that have done little to improve comfort or atmosphere. Ticketing issues and other minor complaints made up the rest.

The message from fans is clear: without better performances from the national team, more engaging fan experiences, and a willingness to address ethical concerns, the PSL risks losing its place as Pakistan’s premier sporting event. For now, the empty seats speak louder than any marketing campaign.

  • PCB and PSL are a bunch of certain ethnic group we as a sindhi do no watch because Sindhis are neglected

  • And there’s also a security issue — the car parking is very far, and there are security checks at multiple points. I reached outside the stadium at 5 o’clock, but my entry happened at 8:30. It was a very bad experience for me.”

    • There not reason more important than boycotting it shame on you for going to watch 3rd class team’s match i can’t get how you guys go to matchs sponsored by israeli brands damn u guys

  • No need for so much cricket
    Let children study
    3rd rate player s
    Expensive seats
    Bad cricket too much
    Poor performance

  • But PCB claims 826.5% increase in online viewership for PSL X compared to PSL9. The top two reasons (total 82%) in the survey for not attending in stadium should be applicable for viewing online too I guess like Pak team performance, and boycott due to pro-Israel sponsors.
