PSL 2025 is approaching its business end, and tonight’s clash between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi has all the makings of a season-defining fixture for one side at least. The contest at Multan Cricket Stadium does not benefit the Sultans at all, but could prove massive for Zalmi’s chances of making the playoffs.
It’s been a forgettable season for Multan Sultans. With just one win in eight matches, their campaign has veered from shaky to shambolic. Their most recent performance, a crushing 87-run loss to Karachi Kings, was perhaps their lowest point yet. Mohammad Rizwan’s men will try to salvage some pride, but with their fate already decided, it may not be a surprise to see them fall to their eighth defeat this year.
Peshawar Zalmi, meanwhile, have to keep winning to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. Babar Azam’s side is coming off an important win over Islamabad, with their skipper also looking a bit like his former self, and a win tonight would put some serious pressure on Lahore Qalandars for that last playoff spot. They sit fifth in the table at present with three wins and four losses, but they have three games remaining to make up the deficit.
PSL 10 is returning to Multan after a significant break, so how the surface plays tonight is anyone’s guess at the moment. In the past, batting has not been an issue in Multan, with 168 being the lowest total this year, and another run-fest may be on the cards. Expect the ball to come on nicely early, but timing may become an issue once the surface begins to slow down.
Temperatures are forecast to be around 31°C, with cricket expected to do the talking instead of the weather.
It has not been a tight rivalry over the years, but with Multan struggling for form, Zalmi will walk into this one with the psychological advantage.
| Total Matches Played | Won by Peshawar Zalmi | Won by Multan Sultans |

Things could not be simpler for Zalmi: win and keep hopes of a playoff run alive; lose, and Lahore may not give them another opportunity. For Sultans, this is more about pride than anything else. Two wins from their last two games may not save their season, but should give them a pick-me-up before next year.
All signs point to a high-stakes battle under lights in Multan. One side looking for closure, the other chasing the playoff dream—PSL 10 doesn’t get more dramatic than this.
