Islamabad United have received a much-needed boost ahead of the resumption of Pakistan Super League (PSL X), with the return of seasoned overseas batters as the team looks to get back to winning ways after losing four in a row.
According to reports in local media, Rassie van der Dussen and Alex Hales will be joining the team for the restart to ease concerns. Islamabad United will be significantly affected when PSL X resumes, with several players like Jason Holder, Colin Munro, Riley Meredith, and Ben Dwarshuis, among others, missing the rest of the tournament.
Hales and Rassie van der Dussen’s return significantly boosts their batting line-up ahead of the playoffs, if they qualify.
Van der Dussen, one of the most consistent overseas performers in PSL history, was originally picked by Islamabad United in the PSL X draft but could not participate due to personal reasons. Alex Hales, a long-time stalwart for Islamabad United, did not find a team this time around but brings experience, composure, and firepower to a side aiming for another title tilt.
The news, however, comes amid growing concerns across franchises about the availability of overseas talent for the remainder of PSL X. Several international players who had initially committed to full seasons will not be playing the remainder of the tournament due to a myriad of reasons.
While Islamabad United have managed to bring back two of their premier overseas names, other sides are not so fortunate. Lahore Qalandars, fighting for playoff contention, lost Sikandar Raza to Zimbabwe’s Test series. Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators, both still in the playoff race, are also scrambling to fill gaps left by the unavailability of their first-choice foreign players.
For Islamabad United, though, the return of Rassie and Hales could be the defining factor as they push for their fourth PSL crown. In a season that’s been anything but straightforward, their presence is not just a tactical boost—it’s a psychological one too.
