Peshawar Zalmi have secured the services of Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq for the remainder of PSL X, bolstering their pace attack as the league resumes in Rawalpindi on May 17. With several overseas players unavailable due to international duty and IPL commitments, Zalmi moved swiftly to bring in the experienced T20 specialist to maintain squad depth during a crucial phase of the tournament.
Naveen-ul-Haq, who has previously featured in the PSL with Quetta Gladiators and Zalmi, brings a wealth of experience from various global leagues including the IPL, CPL, and BBL, among others. Known for his clever variations and ability to bowl at the death, his addition could prove vital as Zalmi look to strengthen their playoff push.
He last appeared for the team in the 2023/24 season, picking up 9 wickets in 6 matches.
Zalmi, who have shown glimpses of promise led by skipper Babar Azam, were in need of reinforcements after a number of departures left holes in their overseas lineup. Naveen’s signing ensures they retain firepower with the ball, especially in high-pressure situations that often define the second half of the PSL season.
His arrival is also notable given the broader challenges PSL franchises have faced this season in retaining overseas talent after the break. With several players opting out of the resumed leg due to scheduling clashes, securing quality replacements has become a key part of squad management.
For Zalmi, who are currently in contention for a playoff spot, Naveen-ul-Haq’s signing comes at a crucial time. The Afghan pacer is expected to join the squad shortly and be available for selection when action resumes on May 17.
As PSL X enters its final stages, all eyes will be on how quickly Naveen can settle in and deliver for a Zalmi side still eyeing a deep run.
