The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed two food businesses in Eminabad, Gujranwala, following the tragic deaths of two young sisters who reportedly became ill after consuming food ordered during a family celebration.
Naveed Pehlwan, a well-known kabaddi athlete and the father of the victims, said the family had ordered food during a birthday party. Later that evening, he, his wife, and all five of their children began experiencing symptoms of food poisoning and were rushed to the hospital.
Sadly, his 8-year-old and 4-year-old daughters died, while two other children are in serious condition.
Responding to the incident, PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid directed food safety teams to inspect and shut down the eateries identified by the family. Samples of various items, including cake, cream, red chili powder, cooking oil, and chicken, were collected for lab testing.
A PFA spokesperson confirmed that action will be taken once the test results are finalized. He added that early medical reports indicated the children had already been receiving treatment for prior illness. However, a full investigation is underway, with local police also looking into the matter.
The PFA stressed that any business found to be violating food safety laws will face strict penalties.
