India’s ICC Takeover Continues With Sanjog Gupta Joining as New CEO

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially appointed Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer, with the Indian media mogul taking over the duties from today in place of Geoff Allardice.

A known figure in media, sports, and entertainment, Sanjog Gupta becomes the ICC’s seventh CEO and joins the cricket governing body after serving as CEO of Sports and Live Experiences at JioStar, the broadcast partner of ICC events in India.

Announcing the appointment, ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed confidence in Sanjog’s ability to help drive cricket into new markets and strengthen its position in traditional ones.

“I am pleased to announce that Sanjog Gupta has been appointed as the CEO of the ICC. Sanjog brings extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialisation, which will be invaluable for the ICC,” Shah said.

Sanjog Gupta shared his enthusiasm for leading cricket into what he called a period of “unprecedented growth.”

“It is a privilege to have this opportunity, especially at a time when cricket is poised for unprecedented growth and enjoys the passionate support of almost two billion fans worldwide,” he said.

Sanjog began his career as a journalist before joining Star India in 2010. Over the years, he held leadership positions across content, programming, and strategy. In 2020, he became Head of Sports at Disney and Star India before he was appointed CEO of JioStar Sports in November 2024.

His appointment comes as the ICC aims to keep cricket’s momentum going after its successful push for Olympic inclusion and to further strengthen the sport’s global presence.

With Jay Shah holding the Chairmanship and Sanjog Gupta now established as the CEO, the polarising power structure of cricket may be about to tilt even more.
